Osaka Illumination 2022-2023: Best Winter Illuminations in Osaka

Osaka winter illumination is one of the best things to do in Osaka in winter.


Osaka winter illuminations are divided into two main events: Osaka Hikari Rennaissance and Midosuji Illumination. There are a few other winter illumination in Osaka, but these two you shouldn’t miss. Here are the best Osaka illumination events:


1. Osaka City Central Public Hall Illumination

This Osaka illumination event highlights Hikari-Renaissance, featuring projection mapping performances on the east wall and front entrance of the Osaka City Central Public Hall. The east wall performance started last November 3, while the front entrance performance will start on December 14. As a city of water, the projection mapping performance will center on images that relate to water, ice, and steam. Osaka Hikari-Renaissance also includes illumination events along Nakanoshima Street, Miotsukushi Promenade, the south side of Osaka Central Public Hall, Nakanoshima Park, Suijo Gekijo River, and Rose Park.

2. Midosuji Illumination

This is another major highlight of the Hikari Renaissance and one of the best winter illumination in Japan, stretching 4 kilometers of pure lights and music along Midosuji Street, from Umeda to Namba. This world-record holder is one of the best lights show in Japan, so you wouldn’t want to miss it.

End Date: December 31, 2022

Time: 5:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

3. Osaka Castle Illuminage

Illuminage is a festival of extravagant light displays. It’s an annual event that happens across Japan and Osaka is one of them. The event takes place at the Osaka Castle grounds, turning it into an out-of-this-world attraction at night, shining and glimmering from the 3 million LED lights.


Location: Nishinomaru Garden, Osaka Castle

Start Date: November 22, 2022

End Date: February 26, 2023

Time: 5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Admission Fee: 1,300 yen



4. Abeno Tennoji Illumination

Tennoji Park’s entrance area lights up at night. With the park’s perfectly manicured lawn sitting under Abeno Harukas, Japan’s tallest building, you get a wonderful spot for your friends and family. Nearby there’s Tennoji Zoo, Keitakuen Garden, and the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts.

5. Giant Rubber Duck at Nakanoshima West

This giant globe-trotting rubber duck is visiting Osaka once again and will float at Hotarumachi Port in Nakanoshima West. The show comes with a glowing colored fountain.

6. Osaka Bay Tower Sound and Light

The Osaka Bay Tower Sound and Light winter illumination event features a giant Christmas tree at the heart of the area.
